With over 2,600 sunshine hours a year and consistent 70% humidity, the climate here is ideal for relaxation and is especially beneficial for respiratory health and allergies.

  • Osoršćica mountains: Deer, mouflons, wild boars, rabbits, martens

  • Birds: 162 species, including the rare griffon vulture

  • Marine life: 95 fish species, 61 crustaceans, 38 shellfish

  • Dolphins: A protected pod of 150 bottlenose dolphins lives nearby

On land, traditional farming continues with sheep, goats, cows, pigs, donkeys, and horses.


💧 Lake Vrana: A Hidden Freshwater Jewel

Lake Vrana is a freshwater reservoir with a fascinating geography:

  • Located above sea level

  • Bottom lies 74 m below sea level

  • Size: 5.5 km long and 1.5 km wide

It’s the main source of drinking water for the islands and home to many freshwater fish species.


🏞️ Osoršćica Mountain: Hike Through Myth and Nature

Legend and nature meet on Osoršćica, a ridge stretching across Lošinj.
According to folklore, Saint Gaudentius, exiled for his sermons, cursed all venomous snakes here—which is why Cres and Lošinj remain snake-free to this day.
